| Impressive Alty win |
| The Brewers come to life after a lacklustre first half performance to earn a precious three away points at Moss Lane on Bank Holiday Monday. Steve Evans converts Sean Farrell's cross for the first, and Nigel Clough scores direct from a free-kick to make it 2-0. |

| On a Hyde-ing to nothing |
| Goals from Darren Stride and Steve Evans give the Brewers a comfortable half time lead, super-sub Sean Farrell gets a brace, and player manager Nigel Clough weighs in with one as Albion romp home against Hyde United, for whom Lee Matthews gets a late consolation. |

| Albion settle for a point |
| The Brewers were forced to settle for a point from their first home match of the new season tonight. Albion looked to have done enough to edge a tight encounter with Runcorn thanks to Christian Moore's 74th minute strike, but Paul McNally headed home for the visitors four minutes from time. |

| Brewers blast off in style |
| Albion
marked their return to the UniBond League in fine style on Saturday, winning
4-1 at Bradford Park Avenue as the 2001-2002 campaign finally kicked
off. The Brewers, roared on by a large travelling contingent who swelled the crowd to an Avenue club record 648, surged into a two-goal lead with two penalties after first Christian Moore, then Dale Anderson were upended in the box - Jason Kavanagh calmly converted both times. Avenue quickly drew themselves back into the game when slack defending allowed Neil Bagshaw to head home, but Albion seized control once again in the latter stages of the second half. Debutant Steve Evans (pictured), a close season acquisition from Aston Villa, capped a fine first performance for the Brewers by heading in Nigel Clough's cross on 65 minutes, and skipper Darren Stride put the game beyond reach with a header of his own four minutes later. |

| The
only black mark against an otherwise perfect opening day out in Yorkshire
was some sickening racist chanting from sections of the away
support. Apart from this, all looks well for the coming season, although Brewers fans at risk of getting carried away should remember the last time Albion won on the opening day of the season, also 4-1, was at Rothwell in 1998. Within a month, manager John Barton had lost his job! |
