Twerton Park
Bath, BA2 1DB

Tel: (01225) 4238087     Clubcall: 0891101575
Ground capacity: 8,800   Seats: 1,006

A real old-school football ground which hosted League soccer and Bristol Rovers for many years. Traditional Main Stand, large covered terrace opposite, open terracing behind both goals. Club which won the Southern League in those pre-Conference days when it was the senior league outside the Football League, and finally enjoyed a spell in the Conference after being promoted by default ten seasons ago, courtesy of Dover Athletic's inadequate ground.

Bath suffer from the rugby-playing tendency of many of the locals, and the added misfortune of having one of Europe's premier Rugby Union clubs on it's doorstep. A new board made up of supporters (including  renowned film-maker Ken Loach) recently took over at Twerton, and embarked on a "relaunch" campaign to raise attendances and the club's profile in the City. Not a bad place for an away trip either, if you fancy doing the "tourist thing".

Stuff to do:

The city's Roman Baths, the famous Royal Crescent, historic buildings and streets full of high-class retail outlets make Bath one of the country's leading tourist destinations.  Unfortunately, it's popularity also brings with it the related problems of traffic chaos, homelessness and hordes of French exchange tourists with rucksacks. For the full lowdown on the city, visit  Bath.co.uk

Famous people?

The aforementioned Ken Loach (filmmaker), luvvie-duvvie Liz Hurley and Hugh Grant, and Peter Gabriel who liked the view from Solsbury Hill (a couple of miles Northwest of the city) so much, he wrote a song about it.

Directions:

For Twerton Park leave the M5 (South) at Junction 20, then follow the M4 towards London. Only stay on the M4 for two junctions, leaving at Junction 18 (A46 Bath). Once in Bath, follow the signs for the A36 and A4 Bristol which will bring you to Twerton Park. However, the ground is behind a huge, long stone wall about 20 foot high with openings in it for cars. Take the first of these and go up the hill for about 100 yards and the ground is on your left.

Alternatively, you could take the M5, M4 then the M32 into Bristol and then the A4 to Bath You will then arrive at Twerton Park without touching the city of Bath. Of course, this time the ground is on your right and you take the second turning through the wall.
