  "The Tigers"

A team who, it's fair to say, haven't had too much to shout about in recent seasons. Apart from the ongoing financial difficulties Gloucester have continued to experience over the past couple of seasons, their supporters have had to watch on in envy as their county neighbours marched on to unprecedented success - with both hated rivals Cheltenham and previously obscure neighbours Forest Green Rovers overtaking them to gain promotion to the Conference, and both reaching Wembley in the FA Trophy Final. Cheltenham of course went on to win further promotion to the Football League, leaving these two old rivals literally leagues apart. One can only speculate on how different things might have been if Gloucester, rather than Cheltenham had clinched that second spot in the Premier Division way back on the last day of the 96-97 season.

Meadow Park

Meadow Park, Gloucester

Like Bath, Gloucester are reasonably well supported, but suffer from the strange desire of many of the inhabitants to go and watch fifteen men kicking an oval ball around a muddy field. (Weird!) But they make up for this by the enthusiasm of their support (!?) Past troubles mean segregation is enforced for most matches at Meadow Park - away fans get the open terrace at the car park end, and half of the covered terrace along one side, plus access to the Main Stand. The covered "T-End" terrace is of course for home supporters only.

Stuff to do:

It has a delightful Cathedral, and some Historic Docks. Check out This is Gloucestershire for what's happening in the county

Famous people?

Fred West (serial killer)
On the air: BBC Radio Gloucestershire emits on 104.7 FM, and also covers Cheltenham, Gloucester RFC and Forest Green, in roughly that order

Directions:

For the travellers it’s M5 to Junction 11, then follow the signs for the A40, then the A4031 towards the Historic Docks. From outside the city you will notice the Brown tourist signs for the Historic Docks and if you follow these you won’t go far wrong. Following those signs, turn right into Severn Road, going over the swing-bridge, turn right into Llanthony Road/Hempstead Lane, then the second right into Sudmeadow Road. The ground is about 50 yards down here on the right, but be careful if you’ve not been before, some dope had changed the signpost with Gloucester City FC on it round to point away from the ground. There is ample parking in and around the ground.
