  "The Linnets"

A cold wind whistles in off the Fens, tumbleweed blows across the deserted street. It's quiet - perhaps too quiet, the eerie silence interrupted only by the distant drone of a tractor, and the occasional moo of a distressed cow. Out of the corner of your eye, you notice the discreet twitching of curtains in the nearby houses as you pull up to ask a stranger for directions. As you wind down your window, the old man - his wax jacket liberally sprinkled with dried manure - turns to look at you. He fixes you with a steely gaze. A moment of awkward silence, and then the man speaks. "You'rrrre not from round here, eh boy?"

Such is the popular image of King's Lynn, we of course would never stoop to such stereotyping. Now somewhat less isolated in their rural splendour, with neighbours Boston and Grantham, The Walks stadium remains an Eastern outpost in a league now spread across a broad band of the country. Despite the jokes about tractors, and a reputation for having racist loudmouths amongst their supporters, King's Lynn is nevertheless a worthwhile away trip, and remains one of the best grounds in the league. Impressive Main Stand -built in the late 50's and financed by a massive fundraising by the Supporters Club at the time-  that wouldn't look out of place in the higher echelons of the Nationwide League. Big covered terracing opposite, and a decent atmosphere - the Linnets attract good crowds (but then what else is there to do out there?) Always strong contenders.

Stuff to do:

King's Lynn is an historic fishing port where - according to the King's Lynn Online tourist guide- "the 12th century St Margaret’s church overlooks some of the finest architecture in England, including the magnificent Trinity Guildhall." It also has ghosts!

Famous people?

-
On the air: BBC Radio Norfolk broadcast to the good folk of East Anglia on 95.1/104.4 FM and also on 855/873 kHz on the Medium Waveband
On the net: King's Lynn original site     Mick Beavan's official site

Directions:

King's Lynn is not a particularly difficult ground to find, it just isn’t really near to anywhere. Follow the A50 to Leicester, then the A47 to Peterborough and Kings Lynn. On approach to the town, take the first left off the by-pass after passing the river bridge (South Lynn). Continue to the mini island, take the 2nd exit into Vancouver Avenue, leaving the Texaco Garage on the left hand side. The ground is about half a mile down this road on the left hand side. There is limited parking at the ground.
